Initially, the plantations were raised by raising the seedlings in poly bags. These seedorigin plantations were not effective in terms of growth and yields due tounknown origin of seed and their resistance to diseases. In order to achievemuch higher productivity, TSFDC (combined APFDC) has been raising Eucalyptusclonal plantations from 1994 onwards by selecting the proven clones and raisedthe seedlings which have good potential. The average survival percentage ofthese clonal plantations is about 90 by end of 6th year and theyield per ha is 70-80 MTs in high rainfall areas and 40-50 MTs in low rainfallareas.
About1,50,000 MTs of Eucalyptus Pulp wood is extracted annually from thesePlantations and sold to wood based Industries. These plantations fetch onaverage a gross revenue of Rs.60.00 Crore per annum.
